ERC Projects

The European Research Council funds every year excellent research projects through the ERC Grants. These grants are for up to 5 years and are headed to any scientific discipline carried out by researchers from provate or public institucions from Europe. There are two different ERC Grants: the ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants,  which aim to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish or consolidate a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe, and the ERC Advanced Investigators Grants for consolidated investigators which aim to encourage risk-taking and interdisciplinarity, and supports pioneering frontier research projects.

Six ICIQ group leaders have obtained ERC Grants:

Prof. Emilio Palomares received in 2009 an ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant to develop the project entitled "PolyDot: Control of the Electronic Properties of Hybrid-Quantum Dot/Polymer-Materials for Energy Production".

In 2010, Prof. Núria López has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant for her project “Bio2Chem-d: Catalysis design from first principles for a sustainable chemical industry".

Prof. Piet van Leeuwen obtained in 2010 an ERC Advanced Investigators Grant, together with Prof. Bruno Chaudret (Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination de Toulouse), for the project entitled "NANOSONWINGS: A New Vision”.

Prof. Paolo Melchiorre has received in 2011 an ERC Starting Independent Grant for the project "Exploring Chemical Reactivity with Organocatalysis" (ORGA-NAUT).

This year 2011,  Prof. Rubén Martín has been awarded an ERC Starting Independent Grant to carry out the project "Chasing a Fundamental Challenge in Catalysis: A Combined Cleavage of Molecules" (FunCBonds).

Prof. José Ramón Galán-Mascarós has obtained in 2011 an ERC Starting Independent Grant for the project "Building-up Chemical Complexity into Multifunctional Molecule-based Hybrid Materials" (CHRMCOMP).
