The ICIQ Foundation

The Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya), aware of both the reality of chemical research in Catalonia and the needs of the Catalan chemical industry, decided to create in 2000 the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) as part of its policy of setting up research centres in strategic areas. These research centres were designed with the ambition to become centres of excellence in their field so they can contribute to drive our society towards a society based on knowledge. ICIQ started its research activities in 2004.

ICIQ is legally set up as a public foundation and has a close relationship with the Universitat Riovira i Virgili (URV) which assigned the land on which the Institute was built. Moreover, ICIQ has been recognised by the Governement of Catalonia as a University Research Institute attached to the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV).
